Hi Geoff, thanks for a really useful article.

Have you any thoughts on the best way to upgrade Xcode whilst keeping the ‘current’ version in place? I’m currently using the App store to keep up to date and wondering whether it’s best to:

  1. Update Xcode through the App Store, then go back and download the previous version from Apple’s developer downloads (will achieve the desired result, but double up on the hefty download)
  2. Rename the current Xcode.app to include its version number, then download the latest from the App Store (will this confuse Xcode / the App Store app?)
  3. Stop using the App Store, and download new versions from Apple’s developer downloads (I’ll lose out on the prompts to upgrade from the App Store, but maybe the cleanest way of doing it?)

Kind regards,
Gabby
